        MEFISTO Installation on a PC under system LINUX or equivalent

PRELIMINARY REMARK: The using rules of the software MEFISTO

The using of the software Mefisto and its numerical results are FREE.
But, it is forbidden to trade the software without an agreement with the authors
who can be contacted by e-mail at perronnet@ann.jussieu.fr

More, any publication must mention the using of the software MEFISTO and
its access on the web at http://www.ann.jussieu.fr/~perronnet/mefisto.gene.html

The RIGHT BEHAVIOUR of the software is NEVER GUARANTED.
Any damage, done by the using of the software, could never be the subject of
compensation.

Any try of installation implies that the User has accepted implictly this rules.

Prerequisites on HARDWARE and SOFTWARE:
=======================================
The installation needs of 
- a PC under system LINUX or equivalent;
- a main memory of 32 Mega-bytes;
- a disk memory of 30 Mega-bytes + octets 40 Mega-bytes for executions;
- a SWAP and STACK of 128 Mega-bytes;
- the libraries X11-WINDOW SYSTEM;
- a graphic card which permits under X11 a definition of the display
  1024x768 or 1280x1024 or +  with mode PseudoColor (256 couleurs) or TrueColor.


DOWNLOAD and INSTALL the MEFISTO SOFTWARE
=========================================
It is necessary to
- Define a directory name where MEFISTO will be stored. For instance: $HOME/mefisto
  This directory name is now refered DirMefisto
- Give it the write access right by
  chmod 777 DirMefisto
- With a navigator as Mozilla or Firefox or ... , go to the URL
  http://www.ann.jussieu.fr/~perronne/mefistoa.charger.php3
- Choose the adapted version of the PC to use Mefisto:
  lnx => si PC avec processeur PENTIUM ou equivalent ou au dela         ... sous bash et X11
  lnx5m if   528Mega-bytes of SWAP and STACK are available
  lnx1g if 1.024Giga-bytes of SWAP and STACK are available
  lnx2g if 2.144Giga-bytes of SWAP and STACK are available
  cyg => si PC sous Windows XP ou 2000 dans une fenetre xterm de CYGWIN ... sous bash et X11
  mac => si Mac Intosh avec processeur G4 ou G5 systeme X ou au dela    ... sous bash et X11
  ...
- Download in DirMefisto the 2 files: 
  . install.bash
  . mefisto.NameMachine.tar.gz according to your PC
- Ask the Super-User of the PC to
  . create the directory /usr/local  if it does not exist already;
  . create the symbolic link to the directory Mefisto to /usr/local/mefisto  with the command
    ln -s DirMefisto /usr/local/mefisto
- go to this directory with the command
  cd /usr/local/mefisto

- Type ./install.bash under bash and follow the statements... (language,...)
- Give the access rights to DirMefisto
  chmod -R 755 DirMefisto

At the installation level, a problem may be:
- a no correct name (upper case, ...)
- a DirMefisto name with a blank character
- a not possible access to DirMefisto by incorrect access rights
- a not possible link from DirMefisto to /usr/local/mefisto
- an environment variable MEFISTO=/usr/local/mefisto not initialized
- an environment variable MEFISTOX=$HOME/mefistox not initialized
- a directory /usr/local/mefisto/bin without shell-scripts INITIER MAILLER ... to reload


INSTALLATION OF A USER OF MEFISTO:
==================================
ALL USER has to modify his personal file .bash_profile in his peronal directory
by taking it with a text editor  and add the 2 environment variables

MEFISTO=/usr/local/mefisto
MEFISTOX=$HOME/mefistox
export MEFISTO MEFISTOX

and after the definition of PATH and before the command export PATH, add
PATH=$PATH:$MEFISTO/bin

Then, under Linux, the typing of commands INITIER, MAILLER, ELASTICER, FLUIDER,
THERMICER, ...  will be found.
                   
REMARK for CYGWIN:
==================
Before the command MAILLER, under CYGWIN on a Microsoft system, it is necessary to
type startx to obtain an active X-server.
In the opened window, it is now possible to type MAILLER, ...
